N Amer and e Asia

A common shrub of wetlands, with handsome dark-green glossy leaves. The ball-shaped clusters of small, fragrant, creamy-white flowers appear in summer. Waterfowl appreciate the seeds in winter. Unusually tolerant of wet locations, it is a good choice for naturalizing around the edges of streams and ponds, or in other wet locations. A valuable honey plant.
