Hamamelis virginiana - Oct 13

native, screen, sun - shade
e and cent N Amer

An interesting, long-lived native, it bears conspicuous yellow flowers with strap-like petals from September until November or December. The seeds, which ripen a year later, are explosively propelled from the seed capsule for a distance of up to 15-20'. When grown in full sun, it tends to develop into a large, rounded shrub. Quite tolerant of shade, but when grown there is more inclined to develop an open, irregular form. Prefers moist soil, but is quite adaptable in its soil requirements.
