A shrub or small tree (usually shrub-like in colder areas) with leaves dark green above and waxy-white below. Evergreen where winters are mild. Bears wonderfully fragrant, white, globe-like flowers about 3" across over a long period in summer. Prefers acidic soil, and tolerates wet soil. In the South can reach a height of 30' or more.
