Evening primrose; sundrops. About 80 species of annual to perennial herbs, widely distributed in the Western Hemisphere. Many kinds are cultivated for their showy flowers, which may open in the day or night, depending on species. They prefer light soil.

A day-blooming species, flowering in late spring and early summer. Flowers are white at first, becoming pink, to 3" across. This very attactive wildflower of the prairies is an active spreader, sometimes forming large colonies. Tolerant of dry, sandy soil and drought. Well suited to meadow plantings.
