n Hemisphere, circumpolar
This dense, compact, rounded shrub is an excellent choice for small spaces. The small, fine textured leaves are a dark blue-green color, turning to coppery tones in the fall. Nearly free from diseases and pests, bush cinquefoil is adaptable and durable, withstanding drought and flooding as well as poor, dry, clay, rocky, or slightly alkaline soil, and extreme cold. They require little maintenance once established, yet produce masses of flowers over a period of months. Shrub cinquefoil also serves as a butterfly nectar source and as a host for dorcus copper butterfly larvae. ‘Gold Star’ bears clusters of large, showy, lemon yellow flowers continuously from June until frost.
