native, moist - wet, sun - part shade
Nfld. to Alaska, s to NC and TN

In early spring this showy native lights up wetlands where it occurs with its masses of bright, shiny, golden-yellow flowers about 1" to 1.5" across. Especially conspicuous since it is one of the first of the really showy wildflowers to bloom; marsh marigold's blossoms preceed the leafing out of most trees and shrubs. Quite tolerant of shade, and with some same will get by with ordinary moist soil. Plenty of sun plus damp or wet soil, however, will result in the greatest abundance of flowers.
