e NA

Bears brilliant scarlet flowers about 1-1/2" long, over a long period in late summer and early fall. One of the most brilliantly colored of our native flowers. Likes a bit of shade, but does well in full sun if the soil is moist. The flowers are a favorite food source for hummingbirds.

great blue lobelia

native, moist - wet, part shade - sun
e and cent US

A handsome species, bearing flowers which are blue with a bit of white. Quite persistent once established. Great blue lobelia seems to be a bit more tolerant of dryish conditions than cardinal flower, but in other respects is much like that plant. The species name for this plant refers to its use in the past as a supposed cure for syphilis.
