native, moist - wet, sun - part shade
e N Amer
This rugged, easy to grow native wildflower has leathery, dark green basal leaves. In spring it bears flat-topped clusters of small, bright yellow flowers which give way to bronze green capsules in the fall. The blooms, which persist for weeks, make good cut flowers. Often occurs in colonies in open woods, lighting up shaded areas with color. Plant is a larval food source for swallowtail butterflies. Grows well in sun or shade.
