This fragrant grass is the source of commercial citronella oil, which is well known for its use as an insect repellant. Citronella oil is also used to provide a pleasant fragrance for soaps and other products. In addition, citronella oil is popular for use in aromatherapy, and is reputed to have antiseptic and cat repellant properties.
