Forms a thick, turf-like mat of dark green, arching, evergreen, grass-like leaves. The upright spikes of lavendar flowers, which appear in summer and fall, are followed by clusters of dark purple berries. Considered to be an excellent low-maintenance ground cover. Prefers partial shade, but will do well in full sun (at least in the north) if the soil is moist.
