The plant listings follow a consistent format. You will
notice that the left column of each description includes the
botanic and common plant names. The right column includes growth
habit and hardiness zone information, as well as additional
information. If you are looking for plants for particular uses or
with particular cultural requirements, notice in particular the
bold key words before the start of the species descriptions in the
right column. The key words dry,
moist, and wet refer to the soil
conditions which the plant prefers or tolerates. "Moist", as used
in the key words, means moist but well drained. Most plants will
grow well under such conditions; if there are no key words listed
for soil conditions, moist but well drained can be assumed.
Except as noted, plants listed here will usually be shipped in
containers, or with a clump of soil. Most perennials will be 4"
pot size. Most woody plants will be 4¼" peat pot size.
Plant hardiness is typically given in terms of USDA plant
hardiness zones. An online version of the USDA Plant Hardiness Zone Map,
(http://www.usna.usda.gov/Hardzone/ushzmap.html)
is available. (This is USDA Miscellaneous Publication No. 1475,
Issued January 1990.) The American Horticultural Society heat zone map
may also be of some interest, although we do not have data on
the heat tolerance of our plants.
We have attempted to format listings in a way that makes them
easy to use. We welcome suggestions for further improvements to
our catalog (or any other suggestions, for that matter).
